Put the gum base in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it in 30-second bursts, stirring between each interval until it's completely melted and smooth.

Pour in the corn syrup and mix thoroughly until everything is well combined. The mixture will be thick and sticky at this point.

Add a few drops of your chosen food coloring and flavoring oil. Start with just a little - you can always add more if needed. Stir until the color and flavor are evenly distributed.

Sprinkle a work surface with powdered sugar, then dump your gum mixture onto it. Knead like dough, working in the powdered sugar until the gum stops sticking to your hands.

Once your gum has a good consistency, form it into balls, strips, or whatever shapes you like. If you want sour gum, mix in the citric acid at this point.

Place your shaped gum pieces on a piece of wax paper and let them sit for about 30 minutes. This resting time helps the gum develop the perfect chewy texture.
