Custard Cream Squares (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed.
02 - 4 cups whole milk.
03 - 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar.
04 - 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour.
05 - 8 eggs, separated.
06 - 3 teaspoons vanilla extract.
07 - 2 tablespoons rum (optional).
08 - 2 cups heavy whipping cream, chilled.
09 - 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, plus more for dusting.

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake puff pastry sheets on baking sheets for 10 minutes until golden. Cool.
02 - Boil 3 cups milk. Whisk egg yolks with sugar until fluffy, add flour, vanilla, rum, and remaining milk.
03 - Fold egg mixture into boiling milk and stir until thickened. Remove from heat.
04 - Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form, fold into custard mixture.
05 - Place one pastry sheet in baking dish, spread with custard. Chill 1-2 hours.
06 - Add whipped cream layer, top with pastry cut into squares. Chill 2 hours more.

01 - Needs total 3-4 hours chilling time.
02 - Dust with powdered sugar just before serving.
03 - Keep refrigerated.
